Road to Nowhere

I drive eastbound on I-84 from Boise to Salt Lake City.  I have my new trailer in tow.  Everything is going well.  Truck and trailer are towing straight and true.  It is late afternoon.  Beautiful, sunny day.  Enjoying the scenic surrounding snow capped mountains that surround this remote valley.  Glance at the gas gauge.  Little more than a 1/4 tank.  Should be more than enough gas to the next exit.  Quick glance at a road sign.  Next gas stop and exit, 68 miles.  Quick mental calculation.  I am going to run out of gas.  Yes, I have a pocketful of Roadside Assistance cards to call for help.  Fact of the matter is, I am going to be stopped, alongside the highway out of gas.  I get angry.  First trip with my trailer and I make this dumb mistake.  I press on. Yosemite National Park

Another great video by Andrew Julian on Vimeo.  Yosemite National Park is at the top of my Destination “Punchlist!”

Gone Tomorrow – Lambchop

This was their last night on the continent
The production was shutting down
Drinks and goodbyes were had all around
The wine tasted like sunshine in the basement.

The fire it almost starts itself
Looks like water comes from somewhere else
And I can use a thing or two today

Sometimes I find things on the street
Exchange the shiny ones for something we can eat
You can find me behind the stadium
Along the course of the purling river

The fire it almost starts itself
Looks like water comes from somewhere else
And I can use a thing or two today

And a bowl outside fills itself with rain
And I will get along with something less

Meet Me in Big Sur

“You are a function of what the whole universe is doing in the same way that a wave is a function of what the whole ocean is doing.” -Alan Watts

Several years ago, I had the rare opportunity to visit the Big Sur Country in California with my brother and sister-in-law traveling in their motorhome.  In a single word……….breathtaking!  This inspirational video by Andrew Julian captures the magic and the serenity of one of the most beautiful places on earth.  You need to go.  I will return.

A story about a saddle…..

I recently sold Dad’s Fred Mueller Saddle to a famous and successful business owner in San Francisco with the promise that the saddles’ legacy will be preserved and enjoyed by future generations to come.  I still have my Heiser riding saddle that I will take with me as I travel.

Wild Horse Country

I have to head to Boise, ID the first week of May to pick up my 2009 Nash 22H travel trailer.  The trip will be over 600 miles that will take 9 1/2 hours to get there.  Traveling north of Las Vegas, NV on Highway 93 through the eastern Nevada Great Basin Country. My Travel Experiment

This is the post excerpt.

I am about to start an experiment.  Setting plans to travel.  Going to full-time RV in my new 24 foot travel trailer that I will tow behind my 4wd Ford Expedition.  Where?  I’ll get back to you on that!  Time to retire early in 2017.  Going to set out and travel to places I have always wanted to see.  Visit the most beautiful places this country has to offer.  National Parks for sure.  Want to learn to fly fish.   Continue reading “My Travel Experiment”
